How Can a RAID 10 Server Fail?

RAID 10 Servers fail in a variety of ways. These are the most common RAID 10 failures we see.

RAID 10 Controller or Other Component Failures can take place at anytime leaving you scrambling to recover your files. When a RAID 10 controller, motherboard, power supply, RAM or back-plane fails, it can result in a lost RAID configuration, false positive drive failures and more. RAID 10 controller or server component failures can be caused by electrical surges, overheating or age. If you believe your RAID 10 controller has failed, it's vital that you power down your server and stop attempting recovery yourself.

Multiple Hard Drive Failures of RAID 10 servers do not happen very often but when they do, we can quickly evaluate and recover your files. RAID 10 can sustain a maximum of one hard drive per set to fail consecutively without loss of data. If two drives fail from the same set consecutively, all access to your RAID 10 data will be lost and you will need our professional RAID recovery services.

What to Do When Your RAID 10 Fails:

If your RAID 10 fails and you lose access to your files, we highly recommend that you turn your machine off and do not continue any recovery, restore or rebuild attempts yourself. It is extremely common for companies to put pressure on their IT staff to restore data quickly. This is where we see data lost, companies go out of business and IT staff fired. We see cases every month where certified IT staff destroy any chance of recovery because they attempted to recover, rebuild or restore their RAID 10 data themselves. We don't want to see that happen to you.

Because of the complexity of the way data is striped across the array and the variety of different RAID 10 configurations that exist, it's critical that the RAID 10 data recovery is completed by one of File Savers experienced and specialized RAID engineers.

Why Choose File Savers for your RAID 10 Data Recovery?

About RAID 10 (1+0)

RAID 10 is often used in business level servers where important data is stored and redundancy is imperative. RAID 10 offers extra redundancy by using a minimum of four hard drives that mirror each other in sets of two. Each set uses block level striping to stripe the data between the two mirrored sets to double the total data storage capacity.

This level of redundancy is designed to allow for up to one hard drive failure from each mirrored set. If two hard drives fail out of one nested set, your array will drop offline and you will no longer have access to your data. At this point, you will need a specialized data recovery firm qualified to deal with the situation quickly.

File Savers successfully recovers data from RAID 10 arrays on a regular basis and we understand how to recover your files without causing further problems.
